Children are vital to the life of St. James
by-the-Sea, and their joy and spirit are cherished throughout
our parish! We call upon our youngest members to explore their
growing faith through wonder, play, and prayer. Sunday school
students are encouraged to ask questions, and we seek to nurture
them wherever they are on their burgeoning journey of faith!
On Sunday mornings, children sit with their
parents until they are called forward for a Blessing at the
beginning of the Eucharist, after which they go upstairs to
Sunday school. They return to their families in time for
Communion.
Sunday school for
children ages 3-5 is Godly Play®, a Montessori-based
curriculum which provides a safe space in which
children can encounter and engage with stories from the
Christian tradition. Classes for children ages 5-11 follow
Seasons of the Spirit, a curriculum which follows
both the Lectionary and pattern of worship by gathering,
engaging, responding, and blessing.
Children’s presence is felt throughout the
year with events like the Christmas Pageant, Bible Drama Camp,
All Hallows Eve, Youth Sundays, Children’s Chapels, Easter Egg
Hunt, Story Telling, and more. The
